Paadal.fm player bug

Recently, many users reported issues with the Paadal.fm player. Users were able to select keywords for a station, but were unable to listen, since the player wasnt playing. This was happening only in IE and Chrome browsers. Mozilla Firefox had no issues with the player. A minor, but hard to track down bug was the reason. But its FIXED now. The Paadal.fm player works consistently across all browsers.

If you have neglected paadal.fm due to the player issue, we encourage you to revisit.

In general, a reported bug gets looked into when substantial number of users report it. This is due to our limited resources (both time and money). For a site with scarce resources, it is impractical to look into every bug/feature request.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal users for reporting this bug. It is with your continuous support paadal.com and paadal.fm is possible.

Data lost

If you created an account with us or created a playlist during Sep 20 – Sep 27, it wont be available. The hosting provider screwed up. Don’t give up on us yet, we will be moving to a better provider to prevent issues like this from happening again.

Here’s the reason,

The hosting provider moved the site to a new server, and without checking whether the site is operational in the new one, all the data in the old server were purged. Guess what, the site didn’t work in the new server and the last backup the provider had for the old one was for Sep 20 2009. All data from Sep 20 – Sep 27 is lost.

Search

Ever since i added Shoutbox, “Search” seems to be the most requested feature. It makes perfect sense, considering the number of songs that are listed. Building a not-so-useful search is an easy task, but a useful one which would correct spellings and do suggestions is a daunting task. So I will come up with something that falls in the middle. I cannot promise a date, but “Search” is in the list of features to be added.

Its very encouraging to hear people’s feedback. I also got some interesting bugs pointed out. “Shoutbox” is totally anonymous, thats why i wrote a post to let everyone know that i am indeed reading the messages.

Also, if you experience any kind of issues (slow page loads, streaming issues etc) “Shoutbox” is the best way to let me know.

Server outage

Hey Everyone,

There was a server problem yesterday and the server which streams music is down for around 8-10 hours. My apologies for that. Actually, i don’t need to apologize, since its my provider who screwed up. Some other application on the server ran too many threads and it brought the server down. How lame?

This reminds me of the old saying “You get what you pay for”. I pay pennies for shared hosting and i get support worth pennies. Seriously folks, shared hosting sucks.

Hopefully, i get to move the music to a full fledged CDN someday and offer uninterrupted music.
